Suicide Prevention Symposium: Advancing Suicide Prevention for Black Communities
A focused, one-day, in-person program dedicated to understanding and addressing Black suicide across the lifespan. National experts in Black mental health and suicide prevention will deliver evidence-informed presentations on trends, risk and protective factors, culturally responsive care, and actionable strategies you can bring back to your practice and community.

C Brown Keynote
1. Communicate the increasing urgency and risk of Black youth suicidality
2. Identify factors impacting this rising disparity
3. Increase culturally responsive competencies for addressing Black youth suicidality
R Boyd Keynote
1. Identify parenting and family risk and protective factors for suicidal ideation and behaviors among Black youth.
2. Examine parenting and family factors that are relevant for culturally responsive assessment of suicide risk.
3. Discuss strategies for engagement of Black youth and families in suicide prevention interventions.
Zullo & Williams Session
1. Describe mental health diagnostic disparities for Black LGBTQ+ youth compared to their White cisgender heterosexual peers
2. Apply existing interventions for Black and LGBTQ+ youth at risk for suicide
3. Implement evidence-based treatment strategies to tailor suicide prevention care to the unique needs of Black LGBTQ+ youth
Waitz-Kudla Session
1. Educate about the importance of addressing lethal means when addressing suicidal ideation
2. Discuss empirical data regarding lethal means in the United States
3. Apply information about lethal means counseling and motivational interviewing
Wintersteen Session
1. Identify common errors in documentation that could make one susceptible to liability in tort litigation
2. Describe necessary elements for documentation of patients as it relates to suicide risk
3. Integrate suicide risk documentation into their current documentation practices
