“Super Bugs” – How to treat the worst of the worst infectious pathogens!

March 29, 2025

The use of antibiotics is the single most important factor leading to resistance of agents with some treatments being overused and leading to resistant pathogens. Pharmacists can work closely with the healthcare team to provide appropriate therapy, appropriate duration of therapy as well as proper counseling to patients. The lack of pharmacist knowledge regarding resistant pathogens has drastically worsened the antimicrobial resistant situation.

With proper education regarding treatments and counseling points, pharmacists can ensure proper antibiotic use, which can further lead to reduction in resistance. The intended outcome for the healthcare team and the patient is to properly treat the patient with the least amount of side effects and harm to the patient.
