Trauma Nurse Course - August 2026
Nurses caring for trauma patients in Pennsylvania will be provided basic knowledge to deliver quality, evidence-based trauma care. This will be completed through 3 days of in person training as well as through the completion of online modules prior to the start of the course.

Target Audience
RNs, LPNs and Social workers who provide care to trauma patients
Learning Objectives
1. The student will be able to identify and understand the standards of the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation.
2. The student will be able to describe the purpose of the EMS Healthcare.
. The student will be able to explain scene management.
4. The student will explain and be able to identify the differences between blunt and penetrating trauma.
5. The student will be able to explain and list the process of a trauma patient assessment.
6. The student will be able to discuss the differences between the specific types of enteral feedings along with their benefits.
7. The student will be able to discuss the mechanism of injury and how it effects injury patterns.
8. The student will identify the process of primary and secondary survey.
9. The student will be able to define the pathophysiology of the spine. The student will be able to explain how specific mechanisms of injury and what effect they have on the spine.
10. The student will be able to demonstrate correct chest tube set up as well as describe the correct steps to set up a chest tube. The student will be able to identify and trouble shoot a chest tube and recognize issues with a chest tube.
11. The student will be able to define and discuss the classes of shock.
12. The student will be able to discuss the pathophysiology of burns.
13. The student will discuss the physiologic changes in aging.
14. student will recognize signs and symptoms of elder abuse.
15. The student will be able to demonstrate stop the bleed techniques.
16. The student will be able to list the physiologic changes in the pregnant female.
17. The patient will be able to discuss interventions when taking care of the pregnant trauma patient.
18. The student will be able explain how the mechanism of injury effects injury patterns in children.
19. The student will be able to identify and recognize signs of child abuse.
20. The student will be able to list the fluid resuscitation parameters for pediatric patients.
