UPMC Hamot 2022 APPalooza APP Pearls for Practice
Join your colleagues to learn about the most recent updates related to a variety of fields affecting your patients. Workshops throughout the day allow opportunities to build skills for success. Ample time for questions from the audience has been built into each presentation.
Target Audience
This program is designed specifically for advanced practice providers interested in updating their practice and refreshing their knowledge related to common disease states, comorbidities and complications.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
- Distinguish common benign skin lesions from those that warrant observation, biopsy, or treatment.
- Identify the proper steps to perform a punch biopsy
- Discuss updated HIV guidelines and statistics
- Review prescribing guidelines and contraindications for PrEP
- Review strategies to increase patient compliance with PrEP
- Diagnose different pelvic floor dysfunctions
- Differentiate between the different types of incontinence, pelvic pain, prolapse, and constipation
- Identify treatment options for different types of pelvic floor dysfunction
- Identify components of a computed topography using correct terminology
- Develop a systemic approach to computed topography interpretation
- Analyze a computed topography and identify common normal and abnormal findings
- Define at least three methods to improve mental health
- Improve self-awareness and explore communication styles for effective de-escalation of mental health crises.
- Identify signs of impending mental health escalation, methods of prevention, and techniques for de-escalation
- Review the presentation, diagnosis, and management of asthma
- Discuss the indication for pulmonary function testing
- Review updated guidelines and compare treatment options for atrial fibrillation
- Discuss a team-based approach for identification and care of patients with atrial fibrillation
- Review key factors to aid physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses and other allied health care professionals during deposition
- Review how to prepare for a deposition by knowing the medical record thoroughly and understanding the roles of attorneys and defendant, communicate truthfully during the deposition without providing additional information, and recognize the vital role of the medical record in malpractice cases
- Explain behaviors in medical practice that reduce the likelihood of malpractice litigation, including good communication with peers

Virtually via Zoom
Registrants will be e-mailed a Zoom link 3 days prior to the conference. Virtual attendees will be able to ask questions using the Q&A function in Zoom.
ATTIRE
Attire for the conference is business casual. Since meeting room temperatures can vary, it is recommended that you bring a light jacket or sweater with you to the conference.
