1. Describe the role of the nurse in providing quality palliative care for patients across the lifespan. 2. Define the importance of ongoing communication with the interdisciplinary team, patient and family throughout an end-of-life process and discuss important factors in communicating bad news. 3. Discuss aspects of assessing physiological, psychological, spiritual, cultural and social domains of quality of life for patients and families facing a life-threatening illness or event. 4. Identify barriers to pain relief at end of life, components of a thorough pain assessment, pharmacological and nonpharmacological therapies used to relieve pain. 5. Identify common symptoms associated with end of life processes, potential causes of those symptoms and interventions to prevent or diminish those symptoms. 6.
