11th Annual Adolescent and Young Adult Health Research Symposium

The focus of this symposium will be on understanding the ways in which juvenile court, child welfare, educational, and social service systems and practices impact adolescent health with the goal of identifying interventions and strategies to transform systems to optimize adolescent thriving.

We are excited to welcome Dr. Kym Ahrens from Seattle Children’s Hospital to give the Grand Rounds lecture focusing on her work with youth involved in the child welfare system. 

Target Audience

Scholars and practitioners interested in positive development of youth, adolescent health, community health, advocacy, translational research, health services research, clinical care, and education.

Learning Objectives

The goal of this symposium is to build clinicians and other youth-serving professionals' capacity to:
1.    Understand of the impact of systems on adolescent health 
2.    Identify interventions and strategies to transform systems to optimize adolescent thriving.

What to Submit:
We encourage submissions from students, residents, fellows, trainees, and faculty.  In keeping with this year’s theme, we welcome submissions related to young people who are experiencing marginalization due to system involvement. We are also happy to receive submissions on research relevant to adolescent health broadly. Topics can be in the areas of community health, advocacy, basic or clinical sciences research, health services research, or medical education.

Call for Abstracts for Poster Presentation
Abstracts should not exceed 250 words (excluding title, authors, affiliations, funding source) and should use a structured abstract format, either a standard format (Background, Objective, Methods, Results, Conclusion) or a modified format for program evaluations (timeline, target audience, goals and objectives, activities, outcomes measures and lessons learned in implementation). 

Submission Timeline: By Monday, March 20, 2023, please email your abstract as a Word document (not pdf) to amc386@pitt.edu“adolescent health research symposium abstract” in the subject heading. Presenters will be notified by Friday, March 24th .  Due to the expected high numbers of submissions, all posters will be limited in size to 48” high and 36” wide.
