Learning Objectives

LGBTQ+ Patient Advocacy 
1. Understand and correctly use terms related to gender identify, expression, and sexual orientation. 
2. Identify and understand disparities in health care access and discrimination within LGBTQ+ communities. 
3. Discuss opportunities surrounding serious illness and end of life care for LGBTQ+ communities. Nausea Management 

1. Describe common etiologies of nausea & vomiting in seriously ill patients. 
2. Understand anti-emetic groups for nausea & vomiting including pharmacology, indications, adverse reactions, and cautions. 
3. Identify non-pharmacological interventions for nausea and vomiting. Ethics 

1. Define 4 tenets of biomedical ethics. 
2. Describe the concept of medical futility. 
3. Use case to explore withdrawal vs. withholding a given intervention. Demoralization 

1. Describe relevance of demoralization in palliative care and in end-of-life care. 
2. Understand the signs of demoralization in the seriously ill population. 
3. Identify appropriate interventions to be utilized in patients experiencing demoralization.
