Safe Harbor - Northwest Pennsylvania Veteran Suicide Prevention Program

QPR is a two-hour educational program designed to train people as “gatekeepers” about the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to respond. A gatekeeper is someone in a position to recognize a crisis and warning signs that someone may be at risk3

Question the person’s desire or intent regarding suicide.

Persuade the person to seek and accept help.

Refer the person to appropriate resources.

Learning Objectives

1.    Recall facts about suicide and suicide prevention.
2.    Identify warning signs of suicide.
3.    Demonstrate how to ask someone directly about their desire or intent regarding suicide.
4.    Demonstrate verbal and non-verbal skills used to persuade someone who is having thoughts of suicide to seek and accept help.
5.    Identify local resources available to help someone who is having thoughts of suicide.
6.    Describe how to get help for someone having thoughts of suicide.
