UPMC Adaptive Sports Conference 5.17.25
The first annual UPMC Adaptive Sports Conference will offer healthcare workers and trainees an opportunity to learn the essential medical knowledge needed to safely volunteer with and provide medical coverage to adaptive athletes at various adaptive sports events throughout the city of Pittsburgh. Trainees and professionals will come together to learn about disability etiquette, medical coverage for adaptive sports, volunteering with adaptive athletes, and gain hands on experience with adaptive sports equipment. Highlights of the day will include a panel of local adaptive athletes, a review of the basic knowledge required to provide medical care, and an introduction to adaptive sports equipment. This event will be open to the entire Pittsburgh community.

Learning Objectives
Participants will identify adaptive sport equipment for 3 different adaptive sports and gain knowledge on how to operate and adjust adaptive sports equipment to ensure proper fit, functionality, and safety during athlete participation in various sports.
Participants will assess and manage common injuries specific to adaptive athletes by applying evidence-based medical practices in adaptive sports settings.
Participants will demonstrate hands on proficiency in providing 3 considerations for safely assisting with transfers into and out of adaptive sport equipment.
Participants will implement disability etiquette strategies in patient care and event coverage to improve communication and rapport with adaptive athletes.
