Learning Objectives
Describe the diagnostic and therapeutic indications for bronchoscopy in the critical care setting. Identify key anatomical structures of the upper and lower airway relevant to performing bronchoscopy. Demonstrate basic bronchoscopy technique through an established airway (endotracheal tube or tracheostomy), including scope handling, navigation, and visualization. Perform therapeutic aspiration and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL), including appropriate sampling technique and safety considerations. Perform bronchoscopic intubation via nasal or oral approach, including indications, contraindications, and troubleshooting strategies.
