University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy CE Seminar: Immunization Updates: Understanding New Recommendations and Regulations

Pharmacists and student pharmacists today are faced with many challenges with new and ever-changing immunization requirements. Pharmacists are front-line immunizers and must be knowledgeable with the therapeutic recommendations and the regulatory requirements concerning administration of vaccines and other injectable medications. Legality, and patient safety, are of utmost importance. This session, conducted by a pharmacist immunization expert, and a pharmacist-lawyer, will educate attendees on the latest advances in practice.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Summarize common myths and misinformation surrounding vaccines
  2. Evaluate evidence for current vaccine recommendations
  3. Develop response to patient questions regarding vaccine safety
  4. Distinguish between federal and state authority regarding immunizations within the pharmacy profession 
  5. Discuss the PREP act and its impact on the pharmacy profession involving immunizations 
  6. Identify recent amendments in Pennsylvania law and legal cases surrounding immunizations by pharmacy professionals
