APP Orientation Education Curriculum

The Thoracic APP Orientation Course is designed for advanced practice providers joining the Division of Thoracic Surgery at UPMC.  The goal of the course is to provide foundational training and basic thoracic surgery knowledge to APPs without or limited exposure to the specialty.  Eight modules make up the course, each focusing on a specific surgery or anatomical structure.  The modules are comprised of  various education material presented by or written by Cardiothoracic faculty and staff.  The video lectures, PowerPoints, landmark papers, and links to supplemental resources are all part of a large education repository created by the department to help support the learning of all providers at various stages in their thoracic careers.

The course is comprised of 8 modules. For example, Weeks 3 and 4: Lung Module is considered 1 module. Within each module, there is various content. Credit is awarded upon viewing all of the content from each module, passing the post-course assessment and completing the course evaluation. 

Each module is approved for AAPA and ANCC credit. Credit hours vary. Refer to the Accreditation tab in each module.
