Pulse: Into the Blue: Methylene Blue's Role in Septic Shock

April 1, 2026

Patients who develop sepsis and septic shock face a high mortality risk. The mainstay of therapy to combat the vasodilatory effects of septic shock are volume resuscitation and vasopressors such as catecholamines and vasopressin. Some studies show that the addition of methylene blue can help decrease catecholamine doses and decrease ICU and hospital length of stay. This presentation will focus on the role of methylene blue in septic shock and determining effective dosing strategies and implementation of therapy.
