A recent update was released by the Society of Critical Care Medicine on the Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Prevention and Management of Pain, Anxiety, Agitation/Sedation, Delirium, Immobility, and Sleep Disruption in Adult Patients in the ICU. This update makes the recommendation to use dexmedetomidine over propofol for light sedation in patients in the ICU. I intend to provide education related to this recommendation and literature
