Learning Objectives

1) Provide Exposure to New Protocol in Post-Cardiac Surgery Arrest. 2) Obtain comfort with resterotomy process and the Surgical instruments used. 3) Review and understand common post-operative emergencies and their management. 4) Review clinical differences from a standard patient compared to a post cardiac surgery patient. 5) Obtain deeper understanding of Temporary Epicardial Pacemaker Generator and lead placement. 6) Explore and discuss non-clinical factors leading to arrest and performance during arrest situation. 7) Become comfortable with Internal Defibrillator Paddle placement and the process for transitioning from external to internal with monitor. 8) Understand multiple sternal closure methods and ramifications to emergent resternotomy. 9) Understand 5 point plan approach to post-operative emergencies. 10) Develop closer team approach to emergencies and build team cohesiveness. 11) Understand sterile process and glove / gown technique. 12) Management of patient post arrest and post open chest. 13) Increase exposure and understanding of the benefits of IABP, as well as finer aspects of Cardiac and Vaso active medication selection. 14) Understand and identify patients who would benefit from resternotomy and the importance of time in relation to survival. 15) Review and identify patients most at risk for postoperative arrest and review strategies to monitor and prevent arrest.
