This training is designed to address mental health care professionals who may not realize that medication is under EUA, making it less likely that clinicians and patients and the population at large are aware of life-threatening drug-drug interactions with medications that are highly dependent on CYP3A4 for clearance (e.g., Paxlovid™) which in addition to COVID-19’s impact on the hepatic cytochromes may result in serious medical consequences for individual patients

This training is designed to address anticholinergic medications such as benztropine (Cogentin) or trihexyphenidyl (Artane) are often used in psychiatry to mitigate extrapyramidal side effects associated with antipsychotic medications. However, anticholinergic medications themselves have troublesome side effects including dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, urinary retention and cognitive memory deficits, all of which can significantly impact patient quality of life. In clinical practice, anticholinergic medications for EPS are often refilled and continued for years or indefinitely.

Antimicrobial stewardship programs are now required by federal regulatory agencies (CMS) as well as accreditation bodies such as The Joint Commission. While IDSA/SHEA guidelines recommend the implementation of a multidisciplinary team that includes an infectious diseases trained physician and pharmacist team as leaders, many rural, remote, regional and small community hospitals lack the resources and expertise to fully implement these programs efficiently. As a result, facilities are struggling to meet these requirements and may not know where to start.

Modern medical practice sees healthcare professionals burnt out in droves. Immense pressures combined with constant exposure to human suffering on a daily basis results in burnout: emotional exhaustion, loss of meaning, and loss of purpose. We doubt ourself, becoming anxious, fearful, overwhelmed and angry. To counteract and alleviate the pressures that healthcare professionals experience, Altruism in Medicine Institute has developed AIMIcare, an app for compassion-based rejuvenation based in mindfulness.
