Telephone Triage As Professional Nursing Practice-Improve Quality and Reduce Risk

September 26, 2024 to September 27, 2024

Telephone triage is a newer specialty in the nursing field and can leave the nurse/company open to litigation. Limited education for nurses available on this nursing specialty Lack on documentation from newer nurses Nurses need the ability to think critically and follow protocols while also being able to identify life threatening concerns over the phone during an assessment where they can not see or touch the patient.

The staff will gain knowledge in this newer specialty area. They will learn how to properly document a telephone triage call while gaining confidence in this role. They will learn about real court cases due to lack of documentation or poorly preformed triage to prevent those types of situations from occurring at UPMC. The team will come together for this 2 day event to grow as a staff member and as a team.
