This program will offer guidance for the audience to be able to find the appropriate resources for our patients. Audience members will learn how a social worker can assist with getting necessary resources for our patients. Nurses and childbirth educators will be able to speak to the doula program for patients that could use extra support. Doulas, childbirth educators, and nurses will learn appropriate tips to assist breastfeeding families and should feel comfortable partnering with a lactation consultant.

  • Review proper installation of a car seat
  • Offers key points to identify counterfeit car seats

  • Describe the initiation of the Harrisburg based doula program
  • Discuss what the program offers and how they support pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding families

***UPMC Harrisburg Bridge Milk Program

  • Discuss process of initiating a bridge milk program at UPMC Harrisburg
  • Review guidelines on eligibility for donor milk usage
  • Review how the bridge milk has positively affected breastfeeding rates for UPMC Harrisburg

***Breastfeeding Tools and Trends: What is helpful and what to avoid?

  • List 3 ways to support a baby who is not latching
  • Learn the pros and cons of antenatal colostrum expression
  • Identify how some products for treating sore nipples and engorgement can be harmful

***Social Work: The Power of Collaboration

  • Provide reason provider referral
  • Discuss resources provided by a social worker along with collaboration of internal and external entities
