Pediatric Update 2026

September 18, 2026

This conference is designed to update the primary care practitioner on developments in pediatric health care.  It is designed for pediatricians, family practitioners, emergency room physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants who work with children.

This activity will strengthen collaboration across the interprofessional healthcare team by improving shared understanding of evidence‑based pediatric guidelines and enhancing coordination among primary care providers, specialists, nurses, care managers, and ancillary staff. With clearer referral pathways, more consistent screening practices, and improved confidence in early evaluation and management, the team will communicate more effectively, streamline follow‑up processes, and deliver more timely, integrated care. These improvements will support better continuity, reduce delays in diagnosis, and promote a unified approach to pediatric patient care across the region.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:

Identify appropriate referral thresholds for common pediatric ENT concerns, including recurrent otitis media, snoring, and abnormal newborn hearing screens, and determine when a sleep study is indicated.

Define key concepts in pediatric growth and puberty, distinguish premature adrenarche from precocious puberty, and evaluate short stature using evidence‑based diagnostic criteria.

Describe SMART asthma therapy, apply controller and rescue medication strategies appropriately, and identify which children should be referred to pulmonology or allergy.

Implement evidence‑based lead screening and follow‑up practices, interpret blood lead levels accurately, and coordinate care with public health and environmental resources.

Recognize early musculoskeletal findings—including scoliosis, pediatric back pain, and torticollis—and determine when specialty referral or imaging is warranted.

Analyze pediatric coagulation laboratory values, identify inherited and acquired bleeding disorders, and initiate appropriate early management and referral for suspected thrombosis or coagulopathy.

Explain child passenger safety best practices, including proper restraint selection, Pennsylvania travel laws, and national guideline recommendations.
